Description
Description of the MST-SBH External Lathe Sanding Belt Holder
The MST-SBH external lathe sanding belt holder is designed to provide safer, more precise, and more consistent finishing operations directly on rotating machined parts. Ideal for metal, alloy, and wood applications.
Mounted directly to the existing tool post of conventional or CNC lathes, the MST-SBH securely holds abrasive belts used for sanding, polishing, deburring, and finishing operations. Its design allows operators to work with excellent stability while maintaining consistent pressure on the workpiece. It eliminates the hazards associated with improvised tool holders, improving operator safety and finish consistency.
Unlike manual sanding methods where the operator holds abrasive paper or abrasive belts directly against a rotating workpiece, the MST-SBH keeps hands away from the working area while improving finish uniformity. This hands-free approach helps improve operator safety and reduce the risks associated with manual finishing operations on lathes. It also promotes more repeatable results and is better suited to industrial production and maintenance environments.
Designed for intensive industrial use, the MST-SBH is manufactured from durable, heavy-duty materials. Its three-position opening system allows it to quickly adapt to different workpiece diameters and a wide range of operating conditions. Its ingenious design allows for:
The MST-SBH is available in 2 versions designed to meet different production requirements:
- Manual Mode (MST-SBH Model) for simple and efficient sanding operations
- Manual Mode with Belt Clutch Control (MST-SBH(A) Model) providing greater rotational control, ideal for applications where precision is critical. (Important: this tool is not motorized and cannot be motorized.)
Its innovative design provides:
- Easy adjustment to different workpiece diameters through three opening positions
- Direct installation on existing tool posts of conventional lathes
- Compatibility with a variety of materials, including metal, certain alloys, and some wood applications
- Simple integration into industrial production and maintenance environments
Compatible with both conventional and CNC lathes, the MST-SBH improves surface finish quality while reducing the risks associated with manual sanding during turning operations.
Each device includes 3 abrasive belts, allowing immediate start-up after installation.
The MST-SBH is designed in accordance with international standards applicable to machine tools and industrial turning operations, ensuring compliance with globally recognized industrial safety requirements.

Why Replace Manual Sanding on a Lathe?
In many machine shops, sanding, polishing, deburring, and finishing operations are still performed manually using abrasive paper or abrasive belts held directly against rotating workpieces during turning operations.
Although this method remains common, it can be difficult to control and may lead to significant variations in finish quality from one operator to another. Manually holding abrasives against a rotating machined part can also increase operator risk, contribute to physical fatigue, and reduce the repeatability of finishing operations.
The MST-SBH was designed to replace these manual methods with a safer, more stable, and more controlled solution better suited to industrial production and maintenance environments.
Thanks to its controlled abrasive belt support system, the MST-SBH provides:
- More uniform and consistent finishes
- Improved control of the applied pressure
- Reduced manual handling
- Greater process repeatability
- Improved safety during turning operations
What are the Advantages of Using the Prismont Lathes Sanding Belt Holder?
Improved Safety
The MST-SBH allows sanding, polishing, and finishing operations to be performed without manually holding abrasives against rotating workpieces. This hands-free approach helps reduce the risks associated with manual finishing operations on lathes.
Uniform and Precise Finishes
Thanks to the stable positioning of the abrasive belt and consistent control of the applied pressure, the MST-SBH helps produce more uniform and repeatable finishes on turned surfaces.
Increased Productivity
Using a dedicated sanding tool helps speed up finishing operations while reducing costs, manual adjustments, and variations between operators.
Reduced Operator Fatigue
The controlled support of the abrasive belt reduces the physical effort associated with manual sanding operations and improves operator comfort during extended periods of use.
Repeatability
The use of the MST-SBH can help achieve consistent and repeatable finishes on similar parts, making it particularly valuable for mass production environments where repeatability is critical.
