Why Replace Manual Sanding on a Lathe?
In many machine shops, sanding and polishing operations are still performed manually by holding an abrasive directly against a rotating workpiece. This method can be difficult to control and may produce variations in finish from one operator to another. It also places the operator's hands close to the workpiece and tool post, increasing the risk of snagging, entanglement or injury.
The MST-SBH(AIR-D) replaces this method with a hands-free solution mounted directly to the lathe tool post. The sanding belt is held by the device and driven by a compressed-air motor, eliminating the need to hold or manually rotate the abrasive during the operation.
This design reduces handling near rotating workpieces and also eliminates the hazards associated with improvised tool holders, while promoting more stable and controlled finishing operations.
What Are the Benefits of Using the PRISMONT Air-Driven Sanding Belt Holder for Lathes?
The MST-SBH(AIR-D) combines the advantages of a hands-free sanding solution with a motorized sanding belt drive, making lathe finishing operations easier while improving speed, consistency and safety.
Improved Safety
The MST-SBH(AIR-D) allows sanding and polishing operations to be performed without direct hand contact with the rotating workpiece. This hands-free approach helps reduce the risks associated with manual finishing operations on a lathe.
Increased Productivity
The compressed-air drive powers the sanding belt without manual rotation, allowing finishing operations to be performed faster and with less operator handling.
Consistent, Controlled Finish
The sanding belt's consistent movement and stable positioning against the workpiece promote a uniform, consistent and repeatable finish during turning operations, which is particularly beneficial for repetitive or production work.
Easier Operation and Time Savings
The pneumatic drive eliminates the need to rotate the sanding belt manually, reducing operator intervention near the rotating workpiece and simplifying finishing operations. The pneumatic motor also speeds up finishing operations and reduces the time required to achieve the desired finish.
Reduced Operator Fatigue
The motorized belt reduces the handling and physical effort associated with sanding and polishing operations, particularly during repetitive or prolonged work.
Versatility
Compatible with various sanding belts and felt belts from the MST-SBH product line, the tool makes it easy to select the appropriate abrasive for the operation and desired finish.
Replacement Sanding Belts and Felt Belts
