Description
Description of the Universal and Surface Grinder Safety Guard
The MST-RE01 protects the operator from direct contact with rotating parts of the grindstone and from the projection of lubricant-coolant. Engineered for demanding grinding environments, it combines a sliding door on steel guides with tempered bearings to ensure smooth, precise and durable travel. External sliding keeps mechanisms clear of debris and simplifies setup while reducing fouling from oil mist and particulates.
The guard mounts to the machine using a robust inclined metal sheet also used for liquid collection; they channel lubricant and fine chips towards the machine’s evacuation area. This design helps keep the work area tidy, protects sensitive components and reduces unplanned maintenance.
The main thick shockproof plastic shield offers a clear field of view of the grinding zone and resists industrial oils. Coupled with the interlocking safety microswitch, the system cuts power when the guard is opened, adding a functional safety layer to operating practices.
The MST-RE01 can be customised on request according to your cylindrical grinder and procedures. The design and labelling follow OSHA, ANSI, ISO-EN and CE requirements to support compliance and audits.
Main Components (numbers refer to the diagram)

- Inclined support sheet metal - in sheet steel
- Safety microswitch with separated actuator with n.2 NC contacts - electrically interlocked
- Steel sliding guide with tempered bearings
- Shield support structure - in aluminum profile
- Shield in shockproof and oil-resistant thick plastic material
Advantages of the MST-RE01
- Quick, safe access thanks to the sliding door on steel guides
- Efficient fluid collection and reduced fouling via the inclined steel base
- Automatic machine stop on opening through the built-in interlocking system
- Excellent visibility with a impact-resistant plastic shield
- Robust construction (steel + thick shockproof plastic) for industrial duty
- Full compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO-EN and CE
- Custom options to fit machine dimensions and installation needs
About the Interlocking System
The MST-RE01 is equipped with an interlocking safety microswitch connected to the machine’s control circuit. When the shield is open, the control circuit is interrupted, which stops the machine immediately and prevents any restart until the guard is closed and the circuit is re-armed according to the manufacturer’s procedure. This interlock delivers a high level of functional safety and supports compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO-EN and CE.

Maintenance
Before each use, inspect the guard for cracks or visible damage and test the interlocking microswitch to confirm proper operation. Cleaning must be performed by trained personnel only, with the machine fully stopped and secured. To maintain optimal visibility, clean the shield regularly to preserve clarity and durability.
