Description of the Large Lathe Sliding Safety Guard MST-TO21/22
The MST-TO21/22 is engineered to ensure full protection and long-term performance during turning operations on large lathes. Its solid yet lightweight aluminum frame, equipped with four anchoring points on the machine head, keeps the guard stable in an overhanging position.
The sliding screen, mounted on a bearing carriage with dual steel guide rails, guarantees smooth, precise movement for easy handling. Made of shockproof, oil-resistant polycarbonate, the transparent shield provides continuous visibility of the machining area while protecting the operator from chips, shavings, coolant, and rotating components of the chuck. The sliding shield has a wide visual manufactured with a special material, suitable to be used for safety guards.
The structure can also be customized to accommodate very large chuck diameters, ensuring stability even on heavy-duty machines.
Each model includes a built-in interlocked safety microswitch that prevents the lathe from starting when the guard is open or improperly positioned — ensuring full compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO-EN, and CE safety standards.
Differences Between the Two Available Models
MST-TO21 – Frontal Protection
Designed to protect the front of the lathe against chip and fluid projection. Ideal for setups where the machining area is accessed primarily from the front.
Available versions: MST-TO21/080 and MST-TO21/120
MST-TO22 – Double-Sided Front and Rear Protection
Provides protection on both sides of the lathe, covering the entire chuck area. Perfect for large lathes requiring complete guarding around the machining zone.
Available versions: MST-TO22/080 and MST-TO22/120

About the Interlock Safety System
The interlock system prevents the lathe from operating when the guard is open or not correctly positioned. This safety feature significantly reduces the risk of accidents and ensures compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO-EN, and CE international standards.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Before starting operations:
- Inspect the guard for any visible cracks or damage.
- Check the proper operation of the interlock microswitch.
Cleaning and maintenance should be performed by trained personnel, only when the machine is powered off. Clean the guard whenever clear visibility of the machining area is required, ensuring optimal safety and visibility.
Choosing the Right Guard Size
In order to choose the correct size for your lathe, you first need to determine which side of the machine needs to be safeguarded — front (MST-TO21) or both rear and front (MST-TO22). Then, calculate the swing overbed of your machine. Please refer to our image called Legend, and calculate M1 x 2. Refer to the table below to select the correct model and width according to your lathe’s turning capacity.
